Baby Bumpdate — Finding Out through Week 11

We found out that I was expecting on Monday, February 8th at exactly five weeks according to my last period and that my estimated due date would be in early October! I’m not thrilled about being super pregnant over the summer, but that’s what pools and air conditioners are for. Am I right or am I right?

I am very thankful that I have not been sick. Fun fact, neither was my mom when she was pregnant with me! I’m still not sure whether it was a coincidence or if morning sickness is partially hereditary. My main symptoms have been fatigue, major food aversions, painful gas, and breast tenderness. I also have some super annoying post nasal drip, but now that I’m getting closer to my second trimester it’s not as bad as it was.

My major food aversion has been to meat that wasn’t already prepared, so I haven’t cooked dinner in weeks! I feel bad, but it is what it is. A lot of the things I ate repetitively throughout the early part of my first trimester haven’t sounded as great lately. Those things include: honeycrisp apples, cereal, and eggs with ketchup.

I’m not a fan of restricting pants in general, but those definitely don’t fit now. I’m living in leggings and flowy pants these days. I still fit into my regular shirts, but it won’t be long before I need to go shopping! My favorite shirt that currently fits the bump the best is a tunic that I bought for our Utah trip last year that’s by CALIA by Carrie Underwood. They have them in solid colors as well and I’m leaning towards going up a size and buying all of them. They’re a bit pricy, but I think they would transition really well from pregnancy to postpartum. They’re quite long and are perfectly soft and stretchy, which is what I need right now.

I was up two pounds for the pregnancy during week ten, which is right on track for what is considered healthy for my first trimester even though I definitely loved chocolate covered ice cream bars in the early weeks. I also had a UTI during my ninth week which warranted antibiotics (first trimester safe, don’t worry!) but the checked my protein levels last week and everything looks good.

We have our second midwife appointment next Tuesday and we finally get to hear the baby’s heartbeat finally! I also need to make my appointment for the ultrasound portion of my NT Scan this week.

SURPRISE! We’re Having a Baby!

On Easter, we were able to share some super exciting news with our extended families and friends – WE’RE HAVING A BABY! We’re absolutely thrilled to be growing our family and excited that our big news is finally out in the open!

I hit 12 weeks on Monday, March 28th and am feeling really good – less tired than I was previously, but my energy level still isn’t back to where it normally is. I will absolutely be doing weekly pregnancy updates and all the other fun things that come with being a mama with a blog!

Something I know I’ll get asked a ton is – “how did you find out?” We actually found out on Monday, February 8th right before I went to bed. I was a few days late at this point, but two days prior, we’d lost J’s grandma very unexpectedly, so I wasn’t as hyper-focused on my cycle like I normally am. So seriously, shout out to the app I use (Clue) for keeping it straight for me. Anyway, I took one of those “two line” tests that I’d purchased from Target earlier in the day. You guys, HOLY POSITIVE. At 11-freaking-pm. The control line and the test line were the same freaking color.

I came out of the bathroom to J, who was already sleeping and said “Baaabe, guess who is hella pregnant?” and half asleep he responds with “Not you…” Haha. Yeah, we know how that turned out. I immediately told my best mama friend Emily as well as another friend, and we all freaked out via text for another hour before I headed to bed.

Due to the timing, I firmly believe that this is meant to be and that our God and our family members teamed up to bless us with this baby. We are so excited! I hope you’ll join us for this new adventure called parenthood (:
