Baby Bumpdate – 34 Weeks

Baby’s Size – This week, he is approximately eighteen inches and a whole five pounds, or the size of a savoy cabbage. Trust me, I’m feeling the eighteen inches part. This week, he discovered that he can move to either side and stretch there too, which I’m definitely not used to. His movements are becoming more and more painful, especially when he decides to have a party in there.

Happenings – We had my baby shower and birthday party this past weekend, and I had so much fun! The love and generosity of our family and friends still blows my mind. We also revealed his name to our family and friends! We used the same canvas that we found out that he was a boy, so it was super meaningful and exciting.

Weight Gain – Not sure. I have a midwife appointment on Thursday. Will update then.

Maternity Clothes? I have a short torso and am all belly, so I’m getting to the point where I have to keep pulling my shirts down to make sure my belly is covered. My maternity shorts are just about too small. I’ve been wearing lounge shorts pretty often because they’re the most comfortable and that’s what I’m all about these days.

Stretch Marks – Yep! My lower belly is littered with small ones. I can’t see them unless I’m looking in a mirror. They’re small and still pretty light, so I think they’ll fade nicely.

Sleep – Ahmazing! Sleeping 8+ hours a night, only waking to go pee a time or two. Although sometimes it takes me a while to get comfortable enough to fall asleep, I have no trouble going back to sleep or anything. I think my body had realized it’s doing a lot of work as it prepares to being this baby into the world and I’m way more tired because of it.

Best Moments – Being surrounded by family and friends at our baby shower and revealing his name to everyone!

Dress is from Pink Blush Maternity!

Food Cravings – Still just mostly crushed ice with apple juice. My water has to be super cold, straight from the fridge and I’m loving apples with peanut butter on them.

Gender – BOY!

Belly Button – Still in, but probably not for long. It’s super shallow and tiny, and sensitive to the touch.

Ring – I could still wear it if I wanted to. I’m not very swollen yet. I can see it in my feet a little bit, since I’m used to practically having flippers, but that’s about it.

Emotions – Solid, but getting to the point where I’m ready not to be pregnant anymore.

Looking Forward To – We have lots of goodies coming in the mail this week, so that’s super exciting. We have our birth conference on Thursday morning, and only three more weeks of Bradley Classes. We got our list of home birth supplies last week, so we’ve started shopping for this items as well. It’s coming down to the wire and I’m so ready to meet him!

MommyCon OC – My Hopes as an Expectant Mom

If you’ve been around for a while, you’d know that I’ve been attending MommyCon since their very first conference in Las Vegas many moons ago. However, in previous years, I attended as a professional nanny and often used it as an opportunity to socialize with my crunchier friends. Of course I loved attending, but it wasn’t a big deal if I got caught up chatting with a friend or shopping in the expo hall.

This year though, I fall into the expectant parent category, and have decided to use this as an opportunity to attend sessions that would benefit myself and my family not only as a new mom, but as a parent who wants to be informed and knowledgable on many of the topics that will be discussed throughout the day.

A few sessions that I’m looking forward to attending specifically include: Medications and More During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding, Your Vagina is Magical, and What Love Tastes Like. I will also be attending the PAXbaby Playdate during the lunch hour. I have big, big hopes for this year and I’m excited to share a recap, as well as my thoughts, after the event is over!

I also have intentions to attend MILK: Orange County in November after our little bean makes his debut. If you’re planning on attending one of the remaining events throughout the year, I would love to know what sessions you’re looking forward to and what you hope to take away from attending! If you’d like to attend any of the remaining events for the year, but don’t have a ticket, use the code NATURALLYWC16 to get $5 off your ticket over on the MommyCon website.

I hope to see you there! :)

Baby Bumpdate – Week 32

Baby’s Size – He’s now measuring in at close to eighteen inches and four pounds. Say whaaat? I feel like that’s so big and it’s hard to believe he’ll put on another two to four pounds before he’s to be born! I feel like he had a major growth spurt over the past few weeks. His movements are becoming more and more uncomfortable and I’m feeling like my belly is very large and in charge.

Mini Update – Since I posted my 30 Week Bumpdate, we figured out I’ve been battling PUPPPs! It’s not fun, but I’ve managed to be able to keep it at bay – to the point where it looks worse than it feels – after talking to our Bradley instructor and following one of her recommendations. I actually had to take this past week off work because I couldn’t handle putting clothes on because I was so itchy.

Weight Gain – Not sure, probably somewhere in the 18-20lb range. I have a midwife appointment this afternoon, so I will update when I know.

Maternity Clothes? This week has been one of minimal clothing, but yes.

Stretch Marks? Womp womp. I have three tiny baby ones on the under side of my belly – aka I spotted them in the mirror. Likely from itching my belly and having to keep my skin drier to keep my PUPPPs at bay. I’ve tried lots of things to moisturize, but everything burns and I end up having to take it off. I’m hoping that after a few weeks I’ll be able to have soft skin again.

Sleep – OH MY. Let’s just not talk about it. I can fall asleep at 11p, then wake up at 3a and be up for the day and not tired at all. There was also one night where I just didn’t sleep at all. Pretty sure my body is just preparing me for a newborn.

Best Moments – I’m loving attending our Bradley classes. It’s nice to be able to get together with people who have similar views and goals as ourselves weekly, yet we’re still learning a ton. We attend our Birth Details class through the birth center tonight and we got The Dude’s dresser and moved all his things into it.

32weeks

Food Cravings – We got a Ninja Blender and I’m OBSESSED. I like to mega crush ice, fill a cup with it, and pour apple juice over it so it’s like a slushy, then eat it with a spoon. So, so good.

Gender – BOY!

Symptoms – Insomnia, like whoa. Just my body getting ready for him to be here. I’ve also noticed I’ve been super thirsty lately, but not as hungry as normal. I’m starting to feel physically uncomfortable and I’m having indigestion pretty often. Not heartburn, but the esophagus burning type stuff.

Belly Button – Still an innie. But so tiny.

Ring – Haven’t worn it. But I’m not swollen, so I’m pretty sure it still fits.

Emotions – A tad more all over the place, but still pretty level.

Looking Forward To – We only have eight or so weeks until my “due” date! I’m also super excited for my shower. I ordered my dress a few days ago and it will be here this week. My shower is a ladies only brunch and it’s going to be so fun!

Baby Bumpdate – Week 30

Baby’s Size – He may be starting to lose his lanugo – the furry hair all over his body that keeps him warm in utero – as he packs on enough fat to keep himself warm without it. He is nearing 17 inches and likely weighs somewhere near 3.5 pounds. His movements are big and some are beginning to become a bit more uncomfortable.

Also, nothing says real life like wearing the shirt as last week and having my hair in a bun. I was itchy and ready for meds and bed by this point. My mom wanted everyone to know that’s why I look grumpy.

Milestones – We’re three quarters of the way done and will be meeting him in approximately ten weeks! Time is flying by. We’re also starting to get RSVPs for my baby shower. So exciting!

Weight Gain – Probably somewhere in the 17 pound range, as I was just shy of that last week at my appointment. I will see my midwife again in two weeks.

Maternity Clothes? Everyday.

Stretch Marks? Still none!

Sleep – Not too shabby, that I can remember. Although a few nights ago I just didn’t sleep due to an allergic reaction I had. More on that later.

Best Moment This Week – Yesterday I was sitting down and his butt was totally in my ribs. I literally grabbed him and moved him so I would be more comfortable. I thought that was pretty funny that I could literally grab him on each side of his butt.

Food Cravings – Nugget ice and Miguel’s Jr.

Gender – BOY.

Symptoms – I passed my glucose test with flying colors, BUT I’m anemic. I went in on Thursday to have more blood taken to be sure that my everything looked okay and to pick up the iron supplements they wanted me to take. Well, turns out I’m actually allergic to the supplements. So, so fun. I’m currently on two different medications for the next few days until this rash goes away.

Belly Button – Still an innie.

Ring – It fits! I wore it a few days ago.

Emotions – Sleepy, because of my meds. I’ve been sleeping 10+ hours every night due to this.

Looking Forward To – I’m ready to start nesting hardcore and preparing our home for him to be born in. I’m also looking forward to my shower in a few weeks!

Baby Bumpdate – Week 29

Baby’s Size – He is getting big! Weighing in at almost three pounds and sixteen inches long, that’s the size of a pineapple. His movements are regular and frequent, and he HATES it when I lay on my side since it invades some of his space. He’ll be packing on weight and inches over the next eleven or so weeks.

Milestones – We’re officially in the third trimester and only have eleven weeks until my “due date”. We’re still playing the name game, although we are down to deciding between two now. One is my favorite and one is Josh’s favorite. We do plan to carry on a tradition that Josh’s family has, so he’s already got a middle name.

Total Weight Gain – Just shy of seventeen pounds for the pregnancy. I had a midwife appointment on Friday, July 22nd and I gained 2.5 pounds between my last appointment on June 30th and this one. My fundal height is also on the larger side of normal. At 28 + 4, I was measuring at 30cm. Normally it would be one centimeter per week of pregnancy. My midwife reassured me that it’s nothing to worry about and I’m all good. I also had my glucose test and will get the results on Monday or Tuesday.

Maternity Clothes? Always and forever, amen.

Stretch Marks? Still none.

Sleep – It’s been really bad lately, but then really good over the past few nights. I’ve been sticking to a solid bedtime routine and cutting out any screen time starting about an hour before I’m ready to go to sleep. I’m currently reading Red Queen before bed every night and I’m about half way through. It’s starting to get really good!

Best Moment This Week – We had a 3D ultrasounds with J’s aunt over at Fetal Memories and got to see our guy’s chubby little cheeks! He’s SO cute! We also had our first bradley class and got clearance for our home birth. I also sent out my baby shower invitations!

Food Cravings – Ice, ice, baby. These days, drinks are ordered with extra ice so I can eat it after I’m done with the drink. And ice cream, because it’s delicious.

Gender – Still definitely a BOY!

Symptoms – Not being able to pick up things off the floor, haha. Okay, I can but it’s definitely not pleasant. Heat burn is back, as is a lack of circulation in my legs when I sit for too long.

Belly Button – Still in, but getting smaller and itchy.

Ring – I haven’t worn it in a few weeks. No clue.

Emotions – I had a breakdown at 4a a few nights ago because my body was tired but my mind was still going and I couldn’t sleep. I started my new bedtime routine the next night and have now slept 8+ hours a few nights in a row, only waking to pee. Hopefully this keeps up!

Looking Forward To – My baby shower and 26th birthday are in five weeks! I can’t wait to celebrate with all our family and friends.
